Doctors Foundation Award Programs
Family Medicine Awards
The Doctors Foundation annually provides $1,500 cash awards to fourth-year family medicine students who match to a family medicine residency in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky geographic region (Bethesda Hospital/TriHealth and The Christ Hospital/University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, and St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Northern Kentucky). Department Chairs of the partnering medical schools select the award winners from each school. The Foundation’s goal is to increase the number of family medicine physicians who choose to live and work in Greater Cincinnati.
Since 2010, grants totaling $105,000 have been approved to nine Tri-State medical schools for 70 graduating medical students receiving the Foundation’s annual Awards for Family Medicine Residents.
Students must be graduating from one of the following twelve medical schools in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio: Case Western Reserve, Indiana University, Northeast Ohio Medical University, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, University of Pikeville, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Wright State University, or Marian University.
Each October, the Doctors Foundation recognizes Family Medicine Award and AAFP Stipend recipients at an annual Family Medicine Awards Dinner.
The Doctors Foundation offers an annual stipend for third-year medical students who plan to attend the AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students.
Stipends of up to $500 will be awarded to third-year medical students at the following schools:
- University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
- Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine
- The Ohio State University College of Medicine
- University of Louisville School of Medicine
- University of Kentucky College of Medicine
- Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
The stipends are designated for registration, lodging and travel costs.
To apply for a Doctors Foundation AAFP Stipend, third-year students from the medical schools listed above are required to complete the application form and submit it to the Chair of their respective Family Medicine Department. The Department Chair then selects eligible students and submits the signed application forms to the Doctors Foundation.
Since inception, grants totaling $21,760 have been approved to four medical schools for stipends for 44 students to travel to the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) annual conference.
